PURPOSE: To accurately detect the occurrence of a fault in a policing device provided with an ATM communication equipment by providing a detection section detecting the occurrence of a fault of the policing device based on a detection reply of the policing device to a monitor function cell to the detector. ;CONSTITUTION: An application section 4a applies a function monitor cell having a virtual path not in use to a policing device 1. A detection section 5a detects the occurrence of a fault of the policing device 1. A command section 6 commands variable revision of an application quantity of the function monitor cell to the application section 4a. A setting section 7 sets variably a policing parameter as to the function monitor cell to the policing device 1. A post- processing section 8 processes the function monitor cell outputted from the policing device 1 so as not to give effect on the succeeding processing. A buffering section 9 buffers a cell with lower priority in the function monitor cell or the user cell to process it that the cell with higher priority is applied to the policing device 1 with priority.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
