PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely and accurately measure a moisture of an iron manufacturing raw material or the like transferred on a belt conveyor by arranging a radiation source having a specific source strength and a counter on one face of a neutron beam-reflecting plate formed of iron and arranging carbon rods on both sides of the counter. ;SOLUTION: A neutron moisture meter 1 is constituted of a radiation source 3 set to one face of a neutron beam-reflecting plate 2 and having a radiation source strength of smaller than 3.7 MBq, a counter 4 and carbon rods 5 arranged on both sides of the counter 4. Although the radiation source 3 is not particularly limited so long as it has a source density of smaller than 3.7 MBq, 252Cf (3.6 MBq) which is an isotope of californium is preferably used. The neutron moisture meter 1 is set above an iron manufacturing raw material (coal powder) 7 on a belt conveyor 6 while a face where the counter 4 and carbon rods 5 are arranged is directed downward. The number of thermal neutrons of the coal powder 7 transferred on the belt conveyor is counted with the use of the neutron moisture meter 1.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
