PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of continuously excavating an inclined shaft from a horizontal shaft with one tunnel excavator.;SOLUTION: After the horizontal shaft is excavated by the tunnel excavator, vertical walls are formed on both side inner faces of a drilled wall face at the terminal section of the horizontal shaft. The front gripper of the tunnel excavator is crimped to the drilled wall face, a main gripper on the rear side is arranged along the vertical walls, the rear end side of an excavator main body is moved downward with the front gripper used as a fulcrum, and the whole is inclined diagonally upward.
