PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of continuously excavating an inclined shaft from a horizontal shaft with one tunnel excavator.;SOLUTION: After the horizontal shaft is excavated by the tunnel excavator, vertical walls are formed on both side inner faces of a drilled wall face at the terminal section of the horizontal shaft. The front gripper of the tunnel excavator is crimped to the drilled wall face, a main gripper on the rear side is arranged along the vertical walls, the rear end side of an excavator main body is moved downward with the front gripper used as a fulcrum, and the whole is inclined diagonally upward. The tunnel excavator is advanced with the main gripper crimped to the vertical walls, and a bent tunnel section of a fixed length bent diagonally upward from the horizontal shaft is excavated, a curved tunnel section directed to the planned line of the inclined shaft from the horizontal shaft is formed by forming the bent tunnel sections in sequence, then the inclined shaft is excavated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
