PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire detector and a detection area setting method for the fire detector which extend a cleaning operation period and enable efficient cleaning operation by proposing a new structure for a fire detector installed in a tunnel and suppressing the sticking of staining causing substances on a light-transmissive window wherein a detection sensor is stored while maintaining a fire monitoring function similar to a conventional one.;SOLUTION: The entire detection area set by the fire detector 10A is so set as to have a relative narrow extent on the upstream side of an air flow C and a relatively wide extent on the downstream side on the basis of an installation center line Lc perpendicular to the internal wall surface 21 of the tunnel according to the relative positional relation, etc., among an upstream-side detection sensor 18 and a downstream-side detection sensor 19, and an upstream-side light-transmissive window 16 and a downstream-side light-transmissive window 17 respctively corresponding to them.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
