PURPOSE: To provide a decorative material having good design by a method, wherein a transfer leaf wherein a covering picture layer comprising a transparent separation layer and a picture layer, and an adhesive layer are successively layered on a base film, is superposed on a transparent base material, to which transfer is applied, on which a water-soluble negative pattern has been formed, so that the film and the leaf are pressed to effect full transfer and thereafter the base material is washed with water. ;CONSTITUTION: Desired fine negative patterns 10 having netlike, point-like, stripe-like shape are formed beforehand on a transparent or semitransparent base material 9, to which transfer is applied, with watersoluble ink. Next, a transfer leaf, wherein a transparent separation layer 2, covering picture layers 3, 5 wherein a picture layer is layered on either upper or lower surface of a solid covering layer 4, or on both the surfaces of the layer, and an adhesive layer 6 are layered on a base film 1 of the transfer leaf, is superposed on a transparent or semitransparent base material 9, to which transfer is applied, to effect full transfer of the leaf to the material 9 by means of a press, following which the material 9 is washed with water.
