PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a strontium-contg. mother alloy used as a strontium additive to nonferrous metal alloys by composing it of a specified weight ratio of strontium and the balance zinc with impurities. ;SOLUTION: This alloy contains, by weight, 20 to 80% strontium. It contains 0.01 to 2.0% each oxidation inhibitor selected from the group of aluminum, copper and the mixture thereof. Moreover, it preferably contains 0.1 to 0.5% oxidation inhibitor and 30 to 40% strontium. The eutectic components in eutectic and hypo eutectic aluminum-silicon cast alloys are modified. It can be added to molten nonferrous metal alloys, the mixture is melted and it is dissolved at ≤600°C. Furthermore, it modifies the microstructures of aluminum base forged alloys and cast alloys. The size of composite iron-carried intermetallic compd. phase present in aluminum base cast alloys can be reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
