PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to seamlessly obtain map information regarding an area name and a building name appearing in an electronized document without trouble. ;SOLUTION: The character string of the area name or building name which is included in the document displayed on a computer screen 13 and whose map information is desired by the user is cut out by being inverted and displayed through the operation of a mouse 12. A method of retrieving a detailed address name is displayed below the cut-out character string and the user selects the retrieving method. The detailed address name corresponding to the character string is retrieved from an address name DB 14 by the specified character string and retrieving method, candidates for the address name are listed, and the user selects one of them.
