PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a shift lever by effectively using an inner space of the shift lever device. ;SOLUTION: This shift lever position detecting system for a shift lever device which electrically detects a shift position of a shift lever 12, has a band-shape blocking an opening portion for a shift lever of a housing. The shift lever portion detecting system for the shift lever device is provided with a slide cover 20 sliding with the shift lever 12, and a position detecting means which detects the shift position of the shift lever 12 on the basis of the side position of the slide cover 20. Therefore, the shift position detecting system which conventionally has to be installed on the side of the shift lever 12, can be installed, for example, under the slide cover 20, thereby improving the flexibility of an installing place for the shift position detecting system.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
