PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the long-term resistance to abrasion and scuffing of an aluminum piston driven against a cylinder wall of aluminum and silicon. ;SOLUTION: The reciprocating engine has an aluminum engine block 24 and an aluminum piston 2. The piston 2 has a skirt part 6 that is made of an aluminum base which is directly coated with a first or hard-anodized layer and a compound polymer coating over the hard-anodized layer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
