PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for the production of a long-period optical fiber grating having small dependence on polarized light, and to provide a long-period optical fiber grating produced with that device. ;SOLUTION: The features of the device are that it includes an optical fiber 406 having on end twisted at least by one turn to the other end, a UV ray laser light source 400, and an amplitude mask 404 aligned over the optical fiber 406 to periodically transmit the light emitting from the UV ray laser light source 400 in a longitudinal direction of the optical fiber 406. Thereby, when the long-period optical fiber grating is to be produced, the optical fiber 406 is preliminarily twisted, or while the optical fiber is twisted, the fiber is irradiated with UV rays so as to produce disturbance in the refractive index of an optical fiber core and to cause isotropic disturbance in the refractive index along the longitudinal direction of the fiber.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
