PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virus which infects and dissolves a red tide-causing plankton which is an alga belonging to the genus Heterocapsa, to provide a method for controlling the red tide by the use of the virus, to provide an agent for controlling the red tide by the use of the virus, to provide a method for isolating the virus, and to provide a method for subculturing the virus.;SOLUTION: This virus which can specifically infect the alga belonging to the genus Heterocapsa and proliferate. The method for isolating the virus, comprising filtering a liquid specimen containing the genus Heterocapsa alga infected with the virus with a filter, inoculating the filtrate in a culture liquid for the alga, culturing the inoculated filtrate, and then subjecting the alga lysis-observed culture liquid to a limiting dilution method to clone the virus. The agent for controlling the red tide, containing the virus as an active ingredient. The method for controlling the red tide, comprising scattering the viruses in the water area of the red tide. The method for subculturing the virus, comprising at least once repeating an operation which comprises centrifuging an alga culture liquid that the infection of the virus and the lysis of the alga are confirmed, inoculating the supernatant in the alga culture liquid, and then culturing the inoculated supernatant.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
