PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the subject polymer of low foreign substance content by melt polymerization for a polymer with liquid crystal nature in a polymerizer equipped with a feedstock charging port, polymer delivery port, agitator, and jacket and by delivering the product followed by cooling the polymerizer to a specified temperature and then charging the polymerizer with the next batch of feedstock. ;CONSTITUTION: A polymerizer equipped with a feedstock charging port or liquor transferring port, polymer delivery port, agitator, and jacket is fed, via the feedstock charging port, with p-hydroxybenzoic acid, 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl, polyethylene terephthalate, terephthalic acid, and acetic anhydride etc., followed by melt polymerization under heating to produce a polyester with liquid crystal nature, which is then delivered via the polymer delivery port, followed by, within 1.5hr, cooling the inside of the polymerizer to a temperature below the descending crystallization temperature of the polymer minus 5°C; hence, the polymerizer is charged with the next batch of feedstock, thus giving the objective optically anisotropic polyester with liquid crystal nature of low foreign substance content without causing spinneret cloggings, therefore, with higher pellet yield.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
