PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cold-cathode low-pressure discharge lamp that can make its back-light unit thinner, lighter in weight, higher in brightness, longer in service life, etc.;SOLUTION: This cold-cathode low-pressure discharge lamp is provided with a fluorescent layer 5 on its inner face and equipped with a glass tube 6, filled with a rare gas or a mixture of rare gas and mercury, and a cylindrical metal-made cold cathode 7 with inner diameter under 0.8 mm sealed at one end at least of the glass tube 6. The cylindrical cold cathode 7 has a shape with a bottom and an opening toward the discharge region, forming a cavity from the inner bottom wall to the opening end, and at least a notch 9 is provided at a spot on the sidewall which is less than 2 mm from the inner bottom wall.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
