PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sharply and faithfully print color transition by selecting a halftone technique which is optimum for image reproduction or edge reproduction for respective pixels and respective separations in edge transition, based on the range that the separation affects the edge transition at the position of the pixel within the local transition strength of the edge transition. In the processor of a printer, an edge/surface recognizing module 41 decides whether the pixel is within a surface or on an edge. The result of a processing for that is sent to an image-processing module 42, an analysis module 46 and a halftone segmentation module 47 and image data are processed inside the image-processing module 42.
