PURPOSE: To realize the welding of the excellent quality by receiving the output of a gap sensor, the operation signal to drive an electric slide is transmitted to the electric slide so that the gap at the lower end of an auxiliary shield box may be constantly the prescribed value, and keeping the gap at the prescribed value to automatically adjust the gap. ;CONSTITUTION: An auxiliary shield box copying device is automatically operated simultaneously with the start of the welding. A gap sensor 7 constantly measures the gap between the sensor and a work 2a, and transmits the signal to a control panel 9. The control panel 9 transmits the operation signal to an electric slide 5 so as to keep the gap at the value instructed by a digital instructing and adjusting meter, and the electric slide 5 is controlled thereby. Because the electric slide 5 is provided with a potentiometer 24, a DC motor is correctly and rapidly operated according to the operation signal without the hunting or the overshoot.
