PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To immediately grasp and control an input source by allowing a prescribed unit to output a detection command for detecting an output plug or a source plug to be a signal source to another unit or a subunit in another unit and allowing the unit or the subunit which receives the command to output a detection result to the prescribed unit.;SOLUTION: The position of an input signal source, providing an input to a specified digital output plug 102, is inquired from a personal computer(PC) to a D-VHS using a command. The plug 102 receives a response, indicating that it received an input from a source plug 112 of a VCR 110 from the D-VHS. After confirming that the source of a video signal outputted to a monitor 210 of a TV is the VCR 110 inside the D-VHS, the D-VHS transfers its equipment information to the PC as a response to the command.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
