The rotary antenna synthetic aperture radar has a processor associated with an electronic component (30) for pulse compression. Data entered from an analogue-to-digital converter (16) are transformed by a Fast Fourier Transformer. The signals from the component are fed into a further electronic component (31) to shift a time gate. Fine time gate shifting involves an interpolation element (32) whose data are used for compensation of amplitude variations of a scalar multiplication device (33) and are fed to a large memory or corner turn component (34). The corner turn component output signals are fed to an interpolation element (35) and via a correlator (18) for compensating for the data shift caused by the tangential speed component to a second interpolation device (36). Detection electronics (37) connected between the memory (18) and second interpolation device (36) convert the complex data into real amplitude data.
