PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form floc good in sedimentation properties and having a large particle size in each stage by adding an inorg. metal salt flocculant to raw water and subsequently adding a coxisting aq.soln. of polymerized silica and α-starch thereto under stirring. ;SOLUTION: A mineral acid 2 (sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, or the like) is added to an alkaline water glass aq.soln. 1 (pH: about 11) with a predetermined silica concn. under stirring to lower the pH of the water glass aq.soln. to 4-9 and this water glass aq.soln. is stirred for a required time. By this operation, a silica monomer is polymerized to obtain a polymerized silica aq.soln. containing polymerized silica (water soluble inorg. polymer). Next, when α-starch 3 (which is obtained by heating or alkalinizing water insoluble raw starch to gelatinize the same and made water soluble) is added to or mixed with the polymerized silica aq.soln. in a powder or aq.soln. state, and inorg./org. composite polymeric flocculation adjuvant markedly enhanced in floc forming effect and perfectly safe even if used in tap water treatment for producing drinking water can be produced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
