PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To run a forklift truck always at an optimum safe speed and eliminate a burden to an operator with respect to the driving operation by controlling the speed based on the cargo handling condition of the forklift truck. ;SOLUTION: This control device is formed so that a maximum controlled speed based on cargo handling conditions is obtained from a lift sensor 28, a pressure sensor 29, and a forward tilt angle sensor 30, and the result thus obtained is compared with a maximum controlled speed set by an operator using a speed setting knob 24. Then, the lower maximum controlled speed or, when these speeds are identical to each other, the maximum controlled speed is set as the final maximum controlled speed.
