PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which can quickly and stably calculate the number of teeth of a gear and a storage medium stored with a program for calculating the number of teeth. ;SOLUTION: This method comprises a process for picking up an image of a gear having specific teeth and grooves, a center detecting process for finding the center of the picked-up circular image of the gear, a warp circle processing process for converting the circular image into a beltlike image according to a specific radius passing the found center as a border line, a pattern detecting process for detecting the teeth or grooves through pattern detection as to the beltlike image obtained through the warp circle processing process, and a tooth- number calculating process for calculating the number of teeth of the gear according to detected information on the teeth or grooves.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
