PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a side weir by reducing the worn quantity thereof and to keep the sealing between cooling rolls and the side weir to the good state. ;SOLUTION: Worn quantity of the side weir 52 disposed at the end surfaces of one pair of cooling rolls 1 oppositely set with a prescribed interval, is detectably accurately by using the pushing quantity of the side weir 52, reaction of the side weir 52, rigidity in a mechanism for supporting the side weir 52 and the thermal expanding characteristic of the cooling roll 1, to execute a prescribed calculation. Thus, the side weir 52 can be pushed to the cooling rolls 1 side in the right amount, and the positional control of the side weir 52 can be executed in unmanned state and the continuous operatable time can be extended by reducing the worn quantity of the side weir 52.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
