PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically switch a system from a pattern recognition mode to a data processing mode and to improve the efficiency of handwriting input based on the recognition result of a handwriting pattern by providing a mode switch part.;SOLUTION: A stroke acquirement part 8-2 acquires stroke information and it is stored in the stroke storage part 11-4 of a RAM 11. When data which are not previously inputted do not exist in a schedule area in the schedule storage part 11-3 of the RAM 11, a data presence/absence judgment part 8-3 drives a mode switch part 8-6. The mode switch part 8-6 switches display from a stroke input mode to a pattern recognition mode. A pattern recognition part 8-4 recognizes a pattern based on stroke data stored in the storage part 11-4. When data which are handwriting-inputted are pattern-recognized and data which are previously inputted do not exist in the storage part 11-3, a system is automatically switched from a pattern recognition mode to a data processing mode.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
