PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having odorizing properties, fragrance and an extremely low threshold value, useful as an aroma imparting substance to foods and beverages and for spraying a food flavoring agent and odorizing air in a room. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (R1 is H, methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl; R2 is H, acetyl, propionyl, isobutyryl, methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl; R3 is H or a group of formula II) such as N-(2- mercaptoethyl)-1,3-thiazolidine. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, in the case of N-(2-mercaptoethyl)-1,3-thiazolidine, by formulating thiazolidine with ethylene sulfide, heating the mixture in an inert atmosphere at 80 deg.C for 24 hours and purifying the resultant substance. The compound especially provides a food with a strong roasted flavor of food. In a prepared food spice, the amount of the compound is preferably 0.00005-1 wt.% on the basis of the whole composition.
