PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire rod of high carbon steel exhibiting superior wire drawing workability when subjected to primary wire drawing work by using high approach angle dice and a manufacturing method of a steel wire.;SOLUTION: A wire rod superior in drawing workability is a steel which consists of, by weight %, 0.60-1.20% C, 0.2-1.2% Si, 0.2-1.0% Mn, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and in the steel, an oxide base inclusion, the diameter of which is at least 6 μm, does not substantially exist in the case of a melting point being high temperature of 1500°C at least, or in the case of non-ductility where a relation between a long diameter l and short diameter d becomes l/d≤1.25, except the components of which the melting point, obtained from a three-component phase diagram of three higher level components being largely contained in content of average composition, is at least 1500°C at 50% SiO2 in a mediator of oxidized material base consisting mainly of MgO, SiO2, Al2O3, MnO, CaO, TiO2 on a cross section of the wire rod obtained by hot rolling.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
