This invention provides a radio transmission process including the steps of providing a radio transmission signal on a central frequency band of an FM radio channel; providing an initial plurality of sub-carriers in an upper lateral track of the FM radio channel; providing a second plurality of sub-carriers in a side track lower than FM radio channel;modulate a first group of the first plurality of sub-carriers with a codified version of a perforated complementary convolution code of programme material; modulate a first group of the second plurality of sub-carriers with the encoded version of a punched complementary convolution code of programme material; and transmit the radiotransmission signal, the first group of the first plurality of sub-carriers and the first group of the second plurality of sub-carriers. In a completely digital version of the invention,the central frequency band may include a plurality of sub-carriers transmitted at a lower power level than that of the sub-carriers on the upper and lower side bands. These additional sub-carriers may be used to transmit additional data. Transmitters and receivers that would use the process are also included.
