The present invention is characterized in that the central electrode of a spark plug is formed by a tube (5), which is adapted for connection by its exterior end to a supply of compressed air or compressed air and fuel mixture. Shaped projections of the earth electrode and the central electrode are performed as deflected tabs (1, 6) arranged on opposite sides of both the electrodes and protruding parallel from edges thereof so that they first near continuously to each other up to a distance needful for ignition of a high-pressure sliding glow between them and then their both ends successively open from each other. Ignition process of a fuel mixture in a spark-ignition engine cylinder by making use of the invented spark plug is characterized in that at the instant of glow excitation at the narrowest spot between the central and earth electrode tabs (1, 6) air or air-fuel mixture is injected into the compression space of a cylinder at a pressure grater than that one in the cylinder, to thereby causing a cluster-like propagation of discharge and sliding movement thereof, whereby range of this discharge continuously increases with increasing distance between the ends of the electrodes in the direction movement of the discharge movement in the cylinder compression space. A sliding high-pressure glow occurs.
