The small hand held shower has a tubular shaft (1) constructed to be connected to a pressurised water supply and supplied through a flexible pipe. A shower head (5) is mounted at the distal end of the piping. A valve (19) is mounted which is normally closed to the flow of water and is manually actuated to an open position when water is required. The shower head is slidably mounted and sealed on the shaft and is connected through an internal stem (8) to a valve (9) which cooperates with a valve seat. The valve seat is located on the shaft between the valve head and the flow head.
