Alloys, especially aluminum-based alloys are prepared to possess extended solidification temperature span and improved homogeneity. aluminum alloys are prepared conventionally in molten state. This is followed by spraying (pulverizing) and cooling. This is carried out in a purpose-built unit. The molten alloy is poured into an inclined spraying trough (5) where comminution and cooling takes place, due to water (18) being streamed in the trough (5). Water is used as an aluminum alloy coolant throughout the unit. There is a storage and post-cooling container (7) adjacent to the lower end of the trough. A spray-nozzle (10) is found at the upper end of the trough (5) for introduction of the spray and cooling water.
