摘要

It is claimed an anti-microbial coating and a method of forming same on the medical devices. The coating is formed by depositing a biocompatible metal by depositing techniques from the vapour phase to produce an atomic disorder in the coating providing during the contact with a solvent a sustained release of metal ions in the quantity sufficient to produce an anti-microbial effect. Preferred deposition conditions to achieve atomic disorder consists in a substrate temperature lower than the normal one and/or working gas pressure higher than the normal one, or material flux angle lower than the normal one. There are also claimed anti-microbial powders, obtained by mechanical working to produce an atomic disorder. The invention may be used for other metallic coatings and metal powders, similarly formed so as to provide enhanced solubility thereof. Claims: 96
