The operating mechanism and valve are removed from the body (2) of the existing main stoptap. The incoming water (3) passes through the valve seat aperture (21) and flows up an internal tube (22) which passes up the inside of the tap stem body. The water flows through an external new stoptap (40) and the new meter (50) and returned (24) to the tap outlet (4).
