The method uses a position finding server (5) to compare identifier-field-strength combinations sent by the terminal with same stored in database and calculates the position having the best matching identifier-field-strength combination based on it. This result is verified or corrected based on rough position finding data received by the terminal (3) from an adjacent base station (2). An independent claim describes a system for determining the position of mobile terminals.
