The device and method for timely storage of electronically ordered goods comprises a number of storage locations, each with closure and locking devices, processors (10,14) and at least one central operating unit. This unit has feed-in devices and reproduction devices. The processors are coupled with the operating unit and with the locking devices. They are also connected to memories for data storage concerning the occupation of the storage locations. The processors are able to produce a list of usable and selectable storage locations. They can store in the memories a destination address for goods deposited in a storage location. Also, they can report electronically to a communication apparatus (11,16,18) belonging to the destination address. Finally, the processors can unlock the locking devices of the storage location for a consignee belonging to the destination address after they have identified themselves to the processors.
