Organometallic composition comprising fluorinated organic compound and organometallic compound when reacted with metallocene complex forms a catalyst for co-polymerisation of alpha-olefins
An organometallic composition, suitable as an activator of a metallocene complex of a metal of group 4 to form a co-polymerisation catalyst of a-olefins, characterised in that it comprises the reaction product between: (a) A fluorinated organic compound, comprising at least one di-unsaturated cycle with 5 or 6 carbon atoms, having the following formula (I); wherein R1-R7 are selected from hydrogen, fluorine, methyl, trifluoroethyl, 1,1-difluoroethyl, heptafluoroisopropyl, 1,1-difluorohexyl, perfluorocyclo-hexyl, pentafluorophenyl, ortho-, meta- and para-nona-fluorodiphenyl, 2,4,6-trifluorophenyl, 2,3,5-trifluorophenyl, 1,1-difluorobenzyl, heptafluorobenzyl, pentafluorophenylmethyl2,6-bis(trifluoromethly)phenyl, 2,6-difluoro-4-trifluoromethyl)phenyl and m can have the values 0 or 1. For example; octafluorene-9-hydroxy fluorenes substituted in position 9 with an alkyl or fluorinated aryl group can be obtained starting from perfluorofluorenone by the reaction with an equivalent quantity of a lithium derivative having the Formula R5Li (with R5 being alkyl or fluorinated aryl having 1-20 carbon atoms, preferably trifluoromethyl, pentafluoroethyl, pentafluorophenyl and bis(trifluoromethylphenyl), in a solution of a hydrocarbon solvent, preferably at temperatures ranging from -50 to +20oC, followed by hydrolysis. (b) An organometallic compound having the following formula (II) wherein; M' is a metal of group 2 or 13 of the periodic table of elements, preferably Mg or Al; each R is independently a hydrocarbyl group, having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; each X is a halogen atom; p is the valence of M' and is equal to 2 for group 2 and 3 for group 13, n is a decimal number ranging from 1 to p, non-limiting examples of these compounds are Grignard reagents such as methlymagnesium chloride, ethylmagnesium chloride, octylmagnesium chloride and phenylmagnesium chloride; magnesium dialkyls such as magnesium diethyl, magnesium dibutyl, aluminium alkyls and aluminium alkyl halides such as aluminium triethyl, aluminium tri-isobutyl, aluminium tri-n-hexyl, aluminium tri-n-octyl. Aluminium isoprenyl, aluminium diethylchloride, aluminium dibutylchloride, aluminiumethyl sesquichloride, aluminium di-iso-butyl chloride and aluminium di-n-octyl chloride, aluminium triisoprenyl or their mixtures. The fluorinated di-unsaturated compound described preferably is shown as Formula (IV); wherein R5 and R8 have the same meaning as defined for formula (I), y and z independently have integer values ranging from 1 to 4; the groups R11 and R12 are independently hydrogen atoms of the respective aromatic ring in one or more of the four positions available on each one, and are selected from fluorine or a fluorinated or non-fluorinated, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbyl group, having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, optionally joined to a different R11 or R12 hydrocarbyl group, respectively, to form another cycle.
