A cover for a tap handle consists of two halves hinged together at 14. This enables the cover to be opened so that it can be placed around a tap handle without disassembling the tap. The two halves can be locked together. In this configuration, it is stated that it is not possible (for a child) to turn the tap handle. The cover can be made of a resilient material of such resilience that an adult can compress the cover into contact with the tap handle, while a child cannot. Alternatively, spring loaded gripping members (not shown) can be used. To turn the tap handle, the gripping members must be pushed inwards against the pressure of springs(not shown) and typically an adult will be able to do this, while a child cannot.
