A triazole derivative or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester derivative thereof has the formula (I) wherein Ar is an optionally halogen or trifluoromethyl substituted phenyl. A pharmaceutical composition thereof is useful as an antifungal agent. An intermediate compound of formula (II) or an acetal derivative thereof is described. Also described is a method for the prophylaxis or treatment of fungal infections in a non-human mammal, comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of a compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester derivative thereof.
