The invention relates to a process for the conversion of 16 aplpha,17 alpha-epoxyprogesterone in 11 alpha-hydroxy, 16 alpha,17 alpha-epoxyprogesterone and consists in gradually adding the steroide substrate, 16 alpha,17 alpha-epoxyprogesterone diluted in absolute ethyl alcohol and water, at high temperature, in ratios of 2:8g/v, in culturing medium which contains a microorganism selected from Rhizopus nigricans ICCF 223 in order to finally achieve a total concentration of steroid 1g/v of medium, and the culturing medium parameters, represented by a pH=4.4...4.6, the temperature of 28 degree C, aeration rate of 0.55 ...1.62 v/v, increase during the whole bioprocess.
