The drive ring (5) comprises a tubular ring from which an annular inwards-facing rim extends. In conjunction with the outer annular surface of the ring, part of the rim forms a concave annular outer surface (6). A layer of high-friction material (100) is applied to this surface. The remainder of the ring's surface is smooth. The innermost part of the rim is angled to provide a finger guard and for attachment to brackets which secure the ring to the wheelchair wheel.
