An impulse drying arrangement comprises a shoe press arrangement (2) and a counter roll (4). The shoe press includes a closed shoe press roll with two end walls (42) and endless, flexible jacket (24) attached to the end walls and surrounding the support beam and the shoe. An impulse drying arrangement comprises a shoe press arrangement and a counter-roll, which together creates an extended nip (6). The shoe press arrangement comprises a shoe (20) that displays a concave shoe mating surface (22) that turned toward the counter-roll. A support beam (12A-C) is provided to support pressing device(s) (16, 18) that are arranged to press the shoe against the counter-roll. It has also a heater (28) for heating the counter-roll surface (26). The shoe press arrangement consists of a closed shoe press roll with two end walls and endless, flexible jacket which is attached at the end walls and surrounding the support beam and the shoe.
