Selective purification of phosphopeptides from hydrolyzed casein involves adsorption of casein hydrolyzate on alumina and elution of phosphopeptides selectively adsorbed on alumina using ammonium hydroxide. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a purified mixture of phosphopeptides (I) obtained by the above said method; and (2) a pharmaceutical composition comprising (I) for use as a medicament for promoting intestinal absorption of calcium, gold, iron, lithium, magnesium or zinc ions.
