The application of a temporary protective coating to a smooth surface comprises impregnation of the smooth surface, with heating and cooling to form a thin protective sheet. The protective sheet is of adjustable density, viscosity and degree of adhesion. EMBODIMENT - The impregnation agent is based on polymer resins derived from the ethenyl group CH2=CH of suitable degree of hydroxylation, combined with branching elements and catalysts.
