During operation of a flightcontrol system in a coordinatedarea bombing mode, one pair in agroup of pairs of fire control azi-muth coordinate error signal andelevation coordinate error signals(145) are faded-in as the aircraftyaw attitude reference and pitchattitude reference, respectively.Each pair is respectively indicativeof the change in aircraft yaw atti-tude and pitch attitude for an air-craft reference axis to be alignedwith an aiming line of sight. Theaiming line of sight corresponds toa target location within a selectedtarget area. A firing signal (685) isprovided in response to both theazimuth and elevation coordinateerror signals being below respec-tive threshold magnitudes, and thenext pair in the group of pairs ofazimuth and elevation coordinateerror signals provide the aircraftattitude reference. A selected wea-pon is fired in response to the firing signal.
