ATRIAL FIBRILLATION TYPE SELECTIVE CARDIOVERTOR AND METHOD

An atrial cardiovertor/defibrillator provides therapyto the atria corresponding to the type of atrial arrhythmiaoccurring in the atria of the heart. The atrialcardiovertor/defibrillator includes a memory for storingrespective different criteria for each of different types ofatrial arrhythmia, a sensor for sensing activity of at leastone of the atria of the heart to provide an electrogramsignal, and a cardiovertor for providing a correspondingtherapy to the heart for each of the different types ofatrial arrhythmia. The cardiovertor/defibrillator furtherincludes an atrial arrhythmia detector responsive to theelectrogram signal and the stored criteria for identifyingone of the types of atrial arrhythmia to cause thecardiovertor to provide therapy to the heart correspondingto the identified atrial arrhythmia.
