METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GENERATING, RECORDING AND TRANSMITTING AN ERRORPRODUCT CODE BLOCK HAVING AN IMPROVED CHECK CODE ARRANGEMENT

There is provided a method of processing data forgenerating an error correction product code block devisedso as to maintain the current level of redundancy afterthe error correcting ability is modified as a result ofadvancement of simiconductor and datarecording/transmission technologies. Unlike any knowntechnique of configuring a Reed-Solomon error correctingproduct code block of (M+PO)x(N+PI) bytes for aninformation data of (MxN) bytes, an error correctingproduct code block data structure is obtained byconfiguring a (Kx(M+1)x(N+P))-byte Reed-Solomon errorcorrecting product code block for (KxMxN)-byte data,making K variable to consequently make the entire size ofthe Reed-Solomon error correcting product code blockvariable. At the same time, the error correcting abilityvaries in proportion to the value of K without increasingredundancy.
