APPARATUS FOR THE RESHARPENING OF TWO-DIMENSIONALLY ACTING KNIFE SETS FOR FLAKING MACHINES, ESPECIALLY FOR WOOD FLAKING MACHINES

The invention relates to the resharpening oftwo-dimensionally acting knife sets in knife rims as theyare used for the industrial production of wood flakes fromlong logs and wood cut to length. Each knife set consistsof a knife plate provided with a cutting edge and ofseveral scoring organs whose scoring blades are tightlylinked to the knife plate according to the invention.After having advanced all knife sets their resharpening isdone in a first phase by means of a grinding drum providedwith ring grooves while the knife rim is rotating slowly.In a second grinding phase the cutting edges are touchedby the grinding drum which moves slightly in axialdirection and for that purpose the knife rim is arrestedintermittently. During this phase the residues remainingon the cutting edges and at the scoring organs in the areaof the ring grooves are ground off.Due to the present invention it is possible to resharpenthe knife rims inside of the flaker via an automaticprogrammed control without loss of production and withoutthe assistance of maintenance personnel so that theflaking operation is not interrupted and the knife setsare always perfectly sharp.
