This invention relates to a method for compacting powdered, particulate, orgranular matter and forcontaining the compacted matter during subsequent processing. When acontinuous tube woven of high-tensilestrength material is subjected to an axial elongating force, its radius tendsto undergo a reductionproportional to axial elongation, and its included volume decreases. When sucha tube in relaxeduntensioned state is uniformly filled with other material and then subjectedto an elongating axial force,the volume within the tube tends to reduce and the contained material issubjected to a compacting force.Axial elongating force may be maintained or varied during subsequentprocessing of the containedpowder. The tube may be wound on a bobbin or other shape during furtherprocessing of the containedmaterial. To fabricate very long continuous filled tubes, the tube may bewoven in the region surroundinga nozzle through which the contained material is extruded at a uniform rate,Since the tube is woven;small apertures exist through the tube wall through which other substances maybe introduced or extracted
