RING LASER GYRO AND METHOD FOR DRIVING RING LASER GYRO

A ring laser gyro wherein a first and a secondlaser beam propagate with propagating directionsdifferent with-each other comprises electrode areas onan optical waveguide configuring the ring laser andcontrols an current injected or a voltage applied tothe electrode areas, wherein the oscillatingfrequencies of the first and second laser beams aredifferent from each other, thereby causing an increaseand a decrease in the beat frequency enabling to detectthe direction and the speed of a rotation at the sametime. With regards to a method for detecting arotation, the anode of the laser gyro is connected toan operational amplifier. Since the signal outputtedfrom the operational amplifier has a frequencycorresponding to the angular speed, it is convertedinto the voltage by a frequency-voltage conversioncircuit so as to detect a rotation. This same methodcan be used for other types of gyros such as asemiconductor laser gyro, a gas lager gyro and thelike.
