A dispersion compensation optical fiber having a small dispersion in the 1.5µm and 1.3 µm bands. The relationship among the relative refractive-index difference .DELTA.1of the center core (1) to the clad (5), the relative refractive-indexdifference .DELTA.2 of the first side core (2) to the clad (5), and therelative refractive-index difference .DELTA.3 of the second side core (3) tothe clad (5) is expressed by .DELTA.1~.DELTA.3~.DELTA.2, 0. 8%=$s(D)1.3%, -0.5=2/$s(D)1=-0.35, 0.2% = $s(D) 3 = 0.3%. The continued ratio of diameterbetween the center core (1) and the first and second side cores (2, 3) is (1:2to 2.5) : (2.5 to 3.5). The dispersion compensation optical fiber is connectedto a single-mode optical fiber. The dispersion of the optical fiber after theconnection in the 1.5 $s(m)m wavelength band is -1 to 1 ps / nm / km, and thatin the 1.3 $s(m)m wavelength band is -5 to 5 ps / nm / km. An opticaltransmission line comprising such a dispersion compensation optical fiber isalso disclosed.
