An optical instrument assembly includes a transmitter (12) for emitting a first optical signal and a second optical signal onto a specimen. A first dye having a reflective wavelength with multiple bands that are excitable by a first optical signal and a second dye having a reflective wavelength with multiple bands that are excitable by a second optical signal are applied to the specimen. The specimen is scanned for reflected wavelengths from the first dye with a first detector (40) for creating a first data set. The first data set is relayed to a computer (80).
