The invention pertains to the use of transforming growth factor ² (TGF-²) in the preparation of a pharmaceutical or nutritional composition for use in the treatment and/or prevention of damage of the intestinal mucosa as a result of chemotherapy or radiotherapy, the pharmaceutical or nutritional composition comprising TGF-² and one or more binding factors for TGF-² in the substantial absence of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) which TGF-² is obtainable by extraction from a mammalian milk whey product.
