The invention relates to a method for producing a spinning solution of cellulose in N-methylmorpholin-N-oxide-monohydrate, wherein (a) the cellulose is pre-activated with liquid ammonia at an initial pressure which is greater than the atmospheric pressure and (b) the pre-activated cellulose is dissolved in N-methylmorpholin-N-oxide-monohydrate. The invention also relates to a solution obtained according to said method and to regenerated cellulose fibers obtained therefrom by spinning. The invention is characterized in that the dissolving process remains non-explosive while an improved quality of the cellulose solution can be obtained. The improvement in quality is characterized by a substantially shorter dissolving time, improved solution structure, lower particle densities and lower aggregates obtained.
